Dedicated to the memory of Ron Hale 1928 - 2023

This site is a tribute to our Dad, Grandad and Great Grandad who passed away peacefully on 3rd February, 2023 at Upton Mill Care Home (Tetbury).  We are grateful for their gentle and professional help in his final weeks.

Ron was born in Seven Kings, Essex and that's where he met our Mum, Betty - at Seven Kings Baptist Church.  They lived in a 'half house' in the first few years of their marriage before moving to Hornchurch.  Dad was working as a design engineer for Ford - based at Rainham at that time.

The family including Kathy and Steve moved to Billericay in 1964.  The design centre for Ford had now moved to Dunton and Dad had a nice country drive to work, which was only about 10 minutes away.  The church was just around the corner from our home and life revolved around it - Steve and Kathy attended many activities including Brownies, Cubs, Scouts, Guides, Youth Club, Sunday School etc.  Ron helped to run a group called Sunday Niters with Betty.  They were active in many groups - such as Men's Supper Club and Ladies Fellowship.  They later moved to a larger house in Billericay, close to the park.

In 1989 they moved to Cirencester, to be near Steve and his growing family.  Fortunately Kathy decided to move there too, so the family all lived fairly close to each other.  Ron and Betty were very active in the Ashcroft Church, particularly in setting up musical concerts to raise funds for the church.  They enjoyed other activities - particularly bowls, folk dancing, arts and crafts and social events.  They enjoyed their 5 grandchildren and Dad latterly had 5 great grandchildren.  Betty unfortunately died in April 2013.  They lived in two places in Cirencester - firstly the pretty village of Daglingworth and then in the town centre in a nice converted mill - Cotswold Mill.

In 2017 Dad moved to a retirement village in Nailsworth, near Stroud.  He greatly enjoyed being somewhere with plenty of social contact.  He regularly walked around the village and stopped to chat to many people.  The village had a central lounge where coffee and tea were served every morning and afternoon.  It had its own restaurant too, which Dad also used.

Unfortunately in 2021 it was discovered that Dad had a condition called Normal Pressure Hydocephalus.  Treatments for this are limited and a  procedure which might have helped him for a short would not have been helpful in his case.  In 2022 he moved to Upton Mill Care Home in Tetbury.  Again he enjoyed his life there, chatting to other residents and staff and was well cared for until he died on 3rd February.
